About So.6
Founded in the spring of 2022, So.6 is a 501(c)6 nonprofit created by the collaborative efforts of the South District businesses, commercial property owners and the neighborhood. Collectively we’re building a business renaissance on the south side that enhances the quality of life for all who live, work and play in Iowa City.
So.6 is a self-supported municipal improvement district, a tool for commercial property owners and businesses in a geographic area to provide leadership, direction and funds for improvements and services that:
- Spur economic development and growth
- Enhance liability and infrastructure
- Provide advocacy and marketing
- Create and support events within the district
A SSMID is made possible by those commercial property owners paying into a self-imposed levy which creates the private investment to leverage and fund improvements within the district.
