Frederick Newell is a dedicated community leader, advocate, and mentor committed to empowering individuals and families in Iowa City, Iowa. A University of Iowa graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work, he founded Dream City in 2012—a nonprofit focused on supporting families, promoting father involvement, and driving economic and community development. Through Dream City, Frederick creates opportunities for personal growth and strengthens the local community.
In addition to his nonprofit work, Frederick serves as the Inclusion & Outreach Coordinator for the Iowa City Community School District, where he promotes diversity, equity, and restorative justice practices. His focus is on creating supportive learning environments and fostering equitable access to resources, particularly for Black and Latino students.
Frederick’s passion for service also extends to his role as Pastor of Purpose Place, a faith-based ministry dedicated to helping individuals discover their purpose and experience personal transformation. His work is rooted in principles of family fortification, individual empowerment, and hope, making a lasting impact on both individuals and the broader community.
Recognized for his contributions, Frederick has received numerous awards, including “Giving A Voice To Dads” and “Program Helping Fathers Succeed”. His book, Dreams Are Possible: Breaking Known Cycles That Hinder Our Communities, reflects his commitment to breaking barriers and inspiring change.
