With a career spanning journalism, media relations, and public service, he has played a pivotal role in shaping communication strategies and fostering informed communities in the Iowa City-Cedar Rapids area.

Early Life and Education

Nick pursued higher education at the University of Iowa, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Religion/Religious Studies in 2002. His passion for storytelling and media led him to further his studies, obtaining a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Journalism and Mass Communication in 2008.

Career in Public Service

Nick has dedicated over 16 years to serving the City of North Liberty in various capacities:

  • Community Relations Director (2023–Present): He leads a team focused on public engagement, equity, transparency, and education, working to strengthen the community.
  • Communications Director (2013–2023): Over a decade, he led the city’s communication initiatives, overseeing social media, public relations, marketing, and large-scale community events such as festivals and neighborhood meetings.
  • Production Coordinator (2008–2013): He managed North Liberty’s NLTV cable channel, spearheaded public engagement projects, and developed the city’s social media presence.
