Rachel K. is a creative problem solver and dedicated community builder, currently serving as the Economic Development & Public Art Coordinator for the City of Iowa City. With a passion for transforming spaces and fostering inclusive economic opportunities, she works to elevate Iowa City’s unique character through strategic partnerships and artistic expression. Previously, she served as Assistant City Manager, where she helped shape public policy, manage budgets, and support local initiatives.

Rachel’s experience spans public administration, strategic communications, and the arts. Her career began with roles at the City of Dubuque, where she worked as a Senior Budget Analyst, Marketing & Outreach Intern, and Arts & Culture Intern, developing her expertise in community engagement and financial management. She has also provided strategic communications consulting and supported political campaigns, including Hillary for America and Obama for America.

A dedicated mentor and leader, Rachel serves as an Assistant Girls Track and Field Coach at Iowa City West High School, sharing her passion for teamwork and growth with the next generation. She holds a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication from the University of Iowa and dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Politics and Spanish from Loras College, where she also minored in Rhetoric & Public Writing.

Recognized for her achievements, Rachel has received the Newman Civic Fellows Award, Alpha Award from the DES National Writing Competition, and the Bernie Saggau Award. With a love for collaboration and a “why not?” mindset, she continues to shape vibrant communities by blending creativity, strategy, and inclusivity.
