South of 6 Launches New Event Partnership Program to Support Community-Led Events

The South of 6 Business District is excited to announce the launch of the So.6 Event Partnership Program, a new initiative aimed at empowering residents, local businesses, and community groups to bring their public event ideas to life, right here in the South of 6 district.

“This program is designed to support people in our community who have great ideas for public events, maybe a street festival, a neighborhood market, a cultural celebration, but just need a little help getting started,” said Maurice Davis, Executive Director of the South of 6 Business District, during a recent interview.

Support That Grows With You

The program is structured as a three-year support model. In Year 1, applicants can receive up to $2,000 in funding along with hands-on support such as permit assistance, flyer design, and basic website setup. In Years 2 and 3, South of 6 gradually steps back to allow organizers to build independence while maintaining momentum and community connections.

Who Can Apply?

Anyone is eligible to apply as long as the event takes place within the South of 6 district. The program welcomes proposals from local businesses, nonprofits, residents, or even informal groups of neighbors. Events must be public, recurring, and aligned with the district’s mission to bring people together, celebrate community, and boost local economic activity.

Types of Events Welcomed

From food pop-ups and maker markets to youth talent showcases and neighborhood block parties, South of 6 is open to a wide range of ideas, particularly those from first-time organizers who may not have had access to resources before.

How to Apply

Interested organizers begin with a required conversation with Maurice Davis to discuss their idea and ensure it’s a good fit. After that, applicants complete a short, guided application. Proposals are reviewed by a panel of community volunteers and approved by the South of 6 board.

Application deadlines and more information are available at www.southof6.org/eventsupport. Organizers planning larger events are encouraged to apply at least nine months in advance.

Turning Local Ideas Into Local Traditions

“We believe the people who live and work in South of 6 already have the ideas, they just need a little backing,” Davis said. “This program is about reducing risk, building community pride, and creating new traditions that reflect the heart of our neighborhood.”
